Jay Cee, an original poem

For national poetry month, I’ll be healing and growing by writing and creating other art centered around decolonization. Thank you to Jana Lynne Umipig (follow her on instagram, @jlcreator) for posting about this work with the Center for Babaylan Studies. I’m excited to see what arises through this endeavor, and also to create 30 new pieces of written word, art, or music. I’ll be sharing some of the work in this blog!
Here is my first piece for 4/1/2020.
I don’t want to elaborate too much on “Jay Cee” in this introduction because I want the piece to speak for itself, but I’m happy to discuss it after it’s been read. I will say that the prompt was the following, “Write a Poem that tells the world who you are in this very moment.”
Here’s “Jay Cee” written out and also typed out.
